long filenames create problems

Hi,

It seems that there's a bug with long filenames... each time I want to convert a file with a long name, it doesn't work, no matter which engine I use. If I manually rename the files with a shorter name, it works, but I don't plan to rename all my video library... could you do something about that please?

Hi.

That is very important information.
Could you please post an example of such path, and Export VTM Options and Settings?

Another question is - what is your OS?
Thank you!

I don't know how to export my logs but I had a folder with 100+ .mp4 videos.
11 files failed. I tried with all engines, nothing worked.
I just noticed that those 11 vids had a very long filename.
I just renamed one, just to try, and it worked straight away. I did it for the 10 others and it did also work...
I give you an example:
the video "Jessica, Lisa, Madison, Franck, Stephane, Louis, Gregoire, Manu, me AT Gatecrasher December 99.mp4". VTM was failing each time to convert in screencaps.
I just renamed the video "Gatecrasher December 99.mp4" and it worked without problem.
I did the same thing with the other "wrong" files and it worked too...
As I own other videos with long filenames, that is a problem for me.
My OS is Windows 10, but I know it's not an OS problem. I isolated the issue: VTM doesn't like very long filenames
An other precision: it seems that VTM does accept the file in input, but doesn't in the "output part"

I hope I could help!

PS: by the way, your program is really good. ;)

EDIT: I know the problem can be solved working on the program code but probably also by allowing to rename the output file

I think the problem is not in the long filename, but in the long PATH.
So it does matter in what folder those files are placed.

Could you also please create a screenshot of your Environment window (in VTM) and Options window too.
I will test it.

In my case it's not a long path (output folder): \\DISKSTATION\multimedia\pics

In VTM environment, I only ticked:
-1st engine: crystal; 2nd engine: engine 2.
-save thumbnails in: \\DISKSTATION\multimedia\pics
-preserve folders structure
-save each job into its own folder
-skip video file if all required pictures exist on the disk
-try substituting for any colorframes

in VTM options: Simple matrix set 1 (5*4). All the rest untouched.

I am sorry, but what is source path (to video)?
The second question is - what is written in Diag.log file?
