I have been enjoying the use of VTM for many years and I have several movies processed by VTM version 7. Both: vtx and jpg thumbail files generated by ver. 7 work perfectly. However, is has recently occurred to me, that when I asked the VTM in its latest version to check a series of folders in order to see if there are VTM thumbnails and vtx files for each movie, the VTM failed to recognize jpg and vtx files generated by VTM version 7 and started generating new ones, which occurred a heavily time-consuming process. My clip library is huge...
This seems to mean that vtx and jpg thumbnail files are not backward compatible for the latest VTM. Is this expected behaviour of your software?
Backward compatibility of jpg and vtx files
They are backward compatible.
You can always use your old screenlists in newer versions of VTM, Videonizer, PTM and the Viewer.
Please provide more details regarding the use case.
I believe the regeneration in you case occurred because of new VTM features, such as 'Prevent collisions' or 'Incremental filenames'.

All I can tell you is to describe again what I did.admin wrote: ↑02 Jan 2025, 14:01 They are backward compatible.

1. I have a movie folder (let’s call it thereafter) "The Main Movie Folder" with several subfolders – each carrying a single movie.
2. When I was working with VTM 7 I made vtx-s in each subfolder. For this purpose I used "add folders" option in VTM indicating the Main Movie Folder to be processed and VTM perfectly found all movies in subfolders and created vts files in each subfolder next to the movie.
3. Later I added several new subfolders each carrying a movie in it.
4. At that time I was already working with the lastest version of VTM and VTM produced vtx files for each new folder I was adding, using the latest VTM version.
5. After several months since then I wanted to check if each movie has its vtx file.
6. For this purpose I opened the lastest version of VTM, used the option "add folders" and chose the Main Movie Folder to be processed. VTM found all movies in subfolders of the Main Movie Folder.
7. The option to skip creating thumbnails and vtx when all required files are present on the disc was active.
8. I clicked Start in VTM and the software started working.
9. VTM correctly skipped all movie files that had thumbnail and vtx files generated by the latest version of VBA. However, it failed to skip movies that had thumbnail and vtx files generated by VTM ver. 7, as if there were no required vtx and thumbnail files. Instead, VTM created new ones.
10. Please note, that the "old" thumbnail and vtx files generated by VTM 7 worked perfectly before they were replaced by newer ones generated by the latest version o VTM. I checked that before the procedure described above in p. 6 through 9 started. For instance, when I clicked on a vtx file it was correctly opened by the latest version of VTM and I could start playing the movie from a selected image on the thumbnail image list. Needless to say, jpg thumbnail files opened correctly in any image viewer.

My question is why the latest vesion of VTM faled to recognize thumbnail and vtx files generated by VTM ver. 7.

And of course, I do and it works OK as regards opening a fingle vtx, but it seems that in case I want to check if a huge number of movies have their vtx and thumbnail files as described above, all "old" vtx and thumbnail files will be replaced and generated again by the newest version of VTM, which – in case of a huge collection of movies is a time-consuming process.
I hope I explaned my problem in a comprehensible manner.
What was the old VTX file name and the new one?M.Czerski wrote: ↑02 Jan 2025, 19:139. VTM correctly skipped all movie files that had thumbnail and vtx files generated by the latest version of VBA.
