Here's the scenario ... I store video files on HDs that are not physically installed in my system, instead, they are mounted via an external USB docking station. Assigned drive letter isn't always the same. Yes, I know there are ways to ensure that it is the same, or reassign the letter in drive manager after the fact, but the point remains that either through accident or inattention, sometimes the drive letter assigned at the time the VTX files were created is forgotten.
I should also point out that I do not generally save the thumbnails in the same directory as the video files. The latter are divided up into sub-dirs, while the thumbs are collected into a single dir. Again, sure, I could change the way these things are organized, but at the moment, it is what it is.
The result is that I've got a directory full of thumbnails, and if the mounted drive letter doesn't match that used at the time the VTX files were created, when I click on one, it doesn't open the associated video file.
Is there a way to change / update the drive letter association dynamically? In other words, is there a setting I could change to specify "the files are on drive X, Y, or Z" ??
I don't need to specify specific sub-dir(s) ... in fact, given the organizational structure, that would be problematic ... and, for me at least, that would not be necessary since the VTX file already pointed to the right directory, it's just that the directory is now located on a different drive ... and the same would be true for ALL the sib-dirs for that tranche of thumbnails.
I'm trying to avoid having to re-scan / and recreate the thumbs anew whenever this situation pops up. Yes, better organization on MY part would mean YOU don't need to code a "fix" for a issue that probably doesn't crop up too often, but it might be of use to someone besides myself.
Anyhow, just wondering if it's a possibility, and thank you in advance for your assistance!
